Known as "the gateway to the Elk Mountains," Crested Butte is nestled perfectly between Gunnison and Mt. Crested Butte at an elevation of 8,885 feet. The historic district of Crested Butte is replete with charm and culture, and of course, friendly and spunky locals.
Gunnison is home to just under 6,000 residents and is characterized by its historical ranching heritage and Western State Colorado University. Gunnison makes a good base camp for exploring the surrounding ski areas, national recreational areas, national parks, rivers, mesas and lakes.
Mt. Crested Butte
Mt. Crested Butte sits serenely above the town of Crested Butte, at an elevation of 9,375 feet to be exact, and takes advantage of unobstructed mountain views and vistas in the Wildflower Capital of Colorado. It is a true winter and summer paradise.
Almont is where the tumbling waters of the Taylor and East rivers meet to form the Gunnison River. While it is a small town, conveniently located between Crested Butte and Gunnison, it caters to those who appreciate a simpler, quieter place.
