    Crested Butte

At an altitude of 8885 ft, Crested Butte is situated at the end of the road at the base of the Elk Mountains. Fondly referred to as the ‘Gateway to the Elk Mountains’ was home to the Ute Indians and then a booming mining town. With the coal mining long gone and the opening of the ski resort by Dick Eflin and Fred Rice, Crested Butte is known today as the ‘Last Great Colorado ski town’ by many. Throughout town, there are various housing options from charming Victorians to condos to custom homes. Due to the Historic District and zoning, most homes are smaller in square footage than what you would find in other outlying areas like Mt. Crested Butte or Skyland. Town has also implemented new 2017 vacation and short-term rental restrictions but town still remains a great investment for locals and second homeowners. It’s not just necessarily the homes that convince visitors to want to purchase here. Simply walking around town, people instantly fall in love with Crested Butte’s charm. This makes the desire to own in town a highly popular option for many. It is a town with an easy-going attitude and lifestyle that you just don’t find anymore. It has retained its adventurous soul and small-town charm. Here you will find no traffic lights or chain stores but a community that openly celebrates the unique mountain life with the mighty Rocky Mountains in the backdrop. The Crested Butte Community School has consistently ranked among the top 10 schools in the state. It is a real town with a treasure. The town is largely a pedestrian and bike-friendly town with an extensive local transportation system. There is an abundance of accessible recreational activities that can be pursued right from town like fishing, nordic skiing, ice skating, paddle boarding, hiking, and biking. Surrounded by over two million acres of National Forest and Wilderness, there is not an interstate in sight! Crested Butte is a must see with plenty of must-dos through the year. It offers an unspoiled setting for any activity through the seasons. For the small size of town, Crested Butte has a great variety of food options. There are over 30 restaurants that can satisfy even the pickiest eater. Community and the events associated with our unique population are copious. We host just under a 100 events here throughout the year like the Alley Loop, Crested Butte Bike Week, Alpenglow Summer and Winter Concerts and Bridges of the Butte. Recognized by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of their “Dozen Distinctive Destinations” and named as one of the “Best Towns in America” by Outdoor Magazine in 2008. Crested Butte is long known for its unpretentious lifestyle and a great place to visit or call home.
