Crested Butte Celebrates 53rd Anniversary

It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than 50 years since Crested Butte was born into existence. Since then, visitors from near and far have been enjoying the challenging and exciting runs at the ski resort, not to mention everything the resort town has to offer. With current snowfall totals, it’s shaping up to be one of the best ski seasons in recent years!

According to Erica Reiter, Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s marketing manager: “In terms of snow our opening was the best start in years and it’s great to see. It is a good indication for a good season to come. We are tracking a little bit ahead of last year and the season should be great because we have more destination travel flights coming into the Gunnison airport.”

Reservations have been already up at hotels and resort properties around Crested Butte this year, especially during the holiday season. With more than 120 ski trails and winter sports like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, there is literally something for everyone at Crested Butte. Recent improvements to the resort include removing trees from the East River lift area to make room for additional intermediate tree skiing, not to mention three new trails for kids near the Painter Boy chairlift.

Reiter discussed another intriguing addition this year, the Waffle Cabin. “Crested Butte is the first in the West to bring golden delicious hand-snack Belgium sugar waffles to the slopes. Waffle Cabin is an incredibly popular slopeside snack at Eastern resorts and through partnerships with a sister resort in Vermont, we have been able to open the cabin next to the guest service hut in the base area.”
