Crested Butte residents are ready for another Fourth of July celebration. This year, the Fourth of July will fall on a Wednesday, a somewhat inconvenient day for a holiday. However, with all of the amazing events going on, there’s no doubt that Crested Butte residents will turn out in full force. Here’s a quick look at what’s going on in the area:
The Crested Butte Fire & EMS Department will host their annual Pancake Breakfast from 7:00-10:00 a.m. at fire station Butte. Later on at 10:00 a.m., there will be a food court with other delicious options.
The Gothic to Crested Butte Run, Walk or Crawl 1/3 Marathon begins at 8 a.m. in Gothic. This is the 44th year the race winds through the aspen woods and meadows to Mt. Crested Butte. The race will finish in downtown, and proceeds benefit the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL).
Secure your spot early on Crested Butte’s Elk Avenue for the July 4th parade, which begins at 11 a.m. After the parade, the area hosts a huge water fight complete with a fire truck, the perfect way to beat the heat!
Local band, Dr. Robert, will play immediately following the parade, and the Stryder Cup bike race begins at 1:00 p.m. for younger kids. There will be old-fashioned games like a sawdust coin hunt, hot dog eating contest and pie eating contest as well from 1:30-3:00 p.m. on Elk Avenue and Third Street.
Boston Brass, one of the world’s arrest brass ensembles, will play a free concert starting at 4:00 p.m. on the Crested Butte Center for the Arts’ outdoor stage. This event kicks off the Crested Butte Music Festival (CBMF) running from July 4 through Aug. 12.
End this busy day with a free outdoor concert at the base area of Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Amber Leigh and her band will play from 7:00-10:30pm.
