Crested Butte Winter, Spring Events Bring Community Together

Living in Crested Butte puts residents smack dab in the middle of some of the Centennial State’s most beloved attractions. This quaint ski town embraces the chilly winds with fun events and winter festivals because, after all, Crested Butte is in the heart of the Colorado Rockies.

The beginning of 2014 was filled with family-friendly events such as the third annual Crested Butte Songwriters Festival, the mid-winter snowmobile extravaganza and the Kenney Mac Ski Fest and Winter Carnival. These exciting events featured a figure skating expo, a polar bear plunge in which brave residents jumped into Pacman Pond, and many more races, competitions and performances.

Mid-February marks the start of the Subaru Freeride Series, which is the North American qualifier for the Swatch Freeride World Tour. This exciting three-day event welcomes locals and visitors to watch some of the finest freeskiing in the country.

Residents should expect the festivities to continue through spring with the Big Air on Elk ski jump showcase. On March 8, downtown Crested Butte will boast a step-up style jump where top skiers and snowboarders try their luck at jumping a 45-foot gap at Third Street and Elk Avenue. The event takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. and profits will go toward benefiting the Crested Butte Snowsports Foundation.

The annual Ski Town Breakdown concert will take place on March 22 and welcome locals and visitors alike with live entertainment and festivities. The event is now in its fifth year and it will be headlined by Matisyahu.
