Lobar Restaurant and Lounge, located at 303 Elk, is a fun, high energy spot featuring small plates, appetizers, soup and salad, plus an award winning Sushi bar. Lobar opened in 2004 with the intentions of being Crested Butte’s only nightclub. This idea lasted just eight days before they decided to add a Sushi bar to the mix.
Then it really took off. Now they’re known for great parties and great Sushi. The cuisine is Japanese fusion and the décor is 50’s pop art. Around the restaurant you will find video screen projecting old Godzilla movies, snowboard videos, and even occasionally a children’s cartoon. Your eyes and taste buds aren’t the only senses being treated – your ears will be too. The music selection is very eclectic ranging from Chicago Blues, contemporary drum and base, and hip-hop.
They feature a happy hour from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday that features regular menu options. (Local’s tip – find a seat at the Sushi bar and chances are the chef will through in something even better during happy hour.) Every Sunday the Gypsy Jazz Social Club entertains the audience with two live sets, starting at 7 p.m., and every Thursday night is Karaoke Night! It’s featured on six flat screens, with four microphones and over 10,000 songs to pick from. You sing your favorite jam and they will be pouring free sake.
The small plate options they serve are called Robata. In Japanese this word means “by the fireside.” The idea is to choose a bunch of items and share them around the table. They offer tradition Sushi appetizers like miso and edamame, plus unique options like Firecracker Shrimp and Crabcakes. All of their Sushi is of the highest quality and they offer some unique and delicious specialty rolls too. Make sure and try the Snow Blossom roll and Godzilla roll.
