Gunnison has a population of around 6000 residents and sits at an altitude of 7700ft. It is a unique high plains desert and a blend of outdoor recreation and ranching with a vibrant main street. The ranching heritage has stood the test of time and cowboys still drive cattle and gather hay for their livestock. This tradition takes you back to simpler times and inspires charm with how the town looks like it is plucked right out of a John Wayne western movie. Established in 1901, Western State Colorado University brings around 2500 students to the area and offers a unique environment to learn. This makes Gunnison feel like a true college community. There are not many places like Gunnison that can offer such a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. From mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing, and whitewater rafting. One of the unique things found just outside of Gunnison is the Blue Mesa Reservoir, Colorado’s largest body of water with approximately 100 miles of shoreline.
