More Than 200 Events Planned for the 27th Annual Wildflower Festival

Crested Butte WildflowersThe 27th annual Wildflower Festival is rolling into town from July 8-14, and both visitors and Crested Butte homeowners will have the opportunity to participate in more than 200 events that are planned. The event brings flower lovers, photographers, and artists together from around the country and world as Mother Nature paints the hillside with a gorgeous array of colors.

Activities include everything from hikes and walks to garden tours, photography classes and more. Crested Butte was designated as the “Wildflower Capital of Colorado” by the Colorado State Legislature in 1990, and while most of the events that week center around the flora and fauna, the Crested Butte Wine & Food Festival, the Crested Butte Music Festival, and Gunnison’s Cattlemen’s Days are all going on the same week. There’s really never a better time to visit this amazing part of the state!

Here’s a quick look at the kinds of events that will be available for interested participants:

  • Hike through the Maroon Bells Wilderness to Aspen, an 11-mile trip through Colorado’s most epic wildflower meadows.

  • Take advantage of over 20 photography classes. New this year is bird photography, where students learn how to capture hummingbirds, butterflies and other pollinators with cameras.

  • Hike on private properties that are being offered by owners to the public.

  • Take a gardening class and learn how to create a natural, native garden.

  • Hike to the old mining town of Crystal, home of the photogenic Crystal Mill.

  • “Hors d’oeuvres in the Evening Light” is taking place in the Washington Gulch area. Enjoy the sunset and the scenery!

  • Take an art class, including plein air painting, watercolor, field sketching, batik, ceramics, and calligraphy. Many of the classes are being offered by Art Studio of the Center for the Arts.

  • Relax with a yoga class in a field of wildflowers!
